SOCIAL MALADAPTATION AND VIOLENCE
Complutense University Madrid (Spain) School of Education
18th of September 2025
organized by
CICA International &
Complutense Research Group on Psychosociobiology of Violence: Education and Prevention

It is a source of great pleasure to extend this invitation to attend the CICA-Complutense International Conference on Social Maladjustment and Violence, which will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Education (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain), on Thursday, September 28, 2025, although it can also be followed online.
This meeting, organized by the Complutense Research Group “Psychosociobiology of Violence: Education and Prevention” together with the CICA International Foundation, provides an international framework for scientists, educators, policymakers, and people from different fields to exchange ideas on the most pressing problems and advances in the fields of education, violence prevention, and the promotion of coexistence.
Social maladjustment and violence represent two of the most disturbing and persistent phenomena in our contemporary societies. Although they often manifest themselves particularly harshly in marginalized environments, among the excluded, the displaced, or the vulnerable, they also leave their mark on the social fabric in more hidden ways, contributing to the reproduction of inequalities, fractures, and suffering.
This meeting addresses this issue from an approach initially centered on social pedagogy, which is complemented by complementary perspectives from psychology, biomedical sciences, history, the arts, and the social sciences.
The meeting aims to rethink maladjustment and violence not as isolated events, but as complex manifestations of structural dynamics that challenge our institutions, policies, educational models, and ways of living together. From a critical and committed perspective, yet open to hope, we aim to offer keys to imagining and building more just, inclusive, and genuinely human ways of life.
This new CICA, in short, is committed to the study, reflection, and dialogue on violence in society and to its prevention. The following topics will be addressed, among others:
– Social adaptation in educational, family, and work contexts
– Resilience and emotional regulation in the face of maladjustment
– Structural and historical factors of social exclusion
– Migration, discrimination, and sociocultural inclusion
– Social, school, and domestic violence: prevention and intervention
– Prevention and action against violence and maladjustment
